From Bruce: I work primarily with attorneys who represent clients in criminal and personal injury matters. I’ve worked with scores of attorneys and have built trusted relationships with most.
Starting out, the template for my business came from my experience working for the Federal Government, and it has grown into the business I have today. Generically speaking, I consider myself an interviewer, with most of my time spent finding people, talking with them and writing reports. Obviously, there is more that goes into an investigation, but finding out what a person or witness has to say has been the crux of my work.
From Bruce: In Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Private Detectives and Protective Agents Board has jurisdiction over the Private Detective profession. Along with other criteria, any person wishing to hold a license must pass a background check, have qualifying experience and be of good character, honesty and integrity. After a thorough review, the Board has the authority to issue or deny a license. I've been licensed for more than 20 years and hold myself to the highest of professional standards.
From Bruce: There are hundreds of licensed Private Detectives in Minnesota providing credible and professional services. Some may be arson investigators, forensic accountants, fraud investigators and so on, but I don’t know of any professional investigator who’s modeled their business after Thomas Magnum, Charlie’s Angels or Ace Ventura. Television and movies have helped create an unrealistic stereotype of the business. So, if you’re looking to have your cheating spouse followed, don’t call me. There may be some licensed investigator out there who would – good luck finding them. If you’re looking for an investigator to intimidate, bully, threaten or entrap someone, or walk the line between ethical and unethical investigation, don’t bother calling any licensed Private Detective.
